2025 is a crucial year for China's economic transformation and development, and a year for the planning and layout of the 15th Five Year Plan. Against the backdrop of profound adjustments and changes in the current global economic landscape, the foreign trade market of the lighting industry is also facing new opportunities. This article summarizes the characteristics of China's lighting industry exports in 2024, combined with the current foreign trade situation, and briefly predicts the development trend of the lighting industry's foreign trade in 2025.
一、Characteristics of China's lighting industry exports 2024
In the past year, the export of the lighting industry has maintained a certain degree of resilience, which can be summarized in three words: "stable, new, and declining".
(1)Stable. The overall stability of China's lighting exports, with a stable proportion of key product exports and stable key export markets.
In 2024, China's exports of lighting products reached 56.1 billion US dollars, a slight decrease of 0.3% year-on-year. The total export value has remained at a historical high, with mechanical and electrical products accounting for 3% of the total export value for 8 consecutive years.
Among them, the export of lighting products remained stable, with an export value of about 42.4 billion US dollars, accounting for 76% of the total export value of the lighting industry. The export growth of some lighting products has played a key supporting role in stabilizing the industry's export market. Among them, the year-on-year growth rates of export volume and export value of fixed lighting fixtures were 9.8% and 0.8%, respectively; The year-on-year growth rates of the export volume and export value of portable lighting fixtures were 17.7% and 2.2%, respectively; The export volume and export value of other photovoltaic lamps and lighting devices designed to use only light-emitting diode (LED) light sources increased by 56.4% and 35% year-on-year, respectively.
The two key export markets of Europe and America maintained stable export volume of about 27.2 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 0.2%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from November, accounting for 48% of the total export volume.
From the perspective of a single export destination, the top ten markets for China's lighting product exports in 2024 are: the United States, Germany, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, the Netherlands, Thailand, and India. The overall export value is stable at about 28 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of about 3%; About 50% of China's lighting exports, which is basically the same as the previous year.
(2)New. The new content of export products has increased, the market along the the Belt and Road has become a new growth point, and the export of LED modules has reached a new high.
Driven by policies and the market, China's exports of photovoltaic lighting and automotive lighting have ushered in new opportunities for good development. In 2024, the export value of photovoltaic lighting products in China is about 1.8 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 35%, accounting for 3% of the total export value of China's lighting industry, an increase of 1 percentage point compared to 2023. This not only enriches the global supply of green lighting products, but also contributes to China's efforts in addressing climate change and achieving green and low-carbon transformation worldwide.
Automotive lighting products are widely welcomed in the global market, with an export value of approximately 4.5 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 11%; Accounting for 8% of the total export value of China's lighting industry, an increase of 1 percentage point compared to 2023.
In 2024, the amount of China's lighting products exported to the markets along the "the Belt and Road" will be about 25.2 billion dollars, up 3% year on year, accounting for 45% of China's total export of lighting products, an increase of 1 percentage point over the same period last year. The top ten markets along the "the Belt and Road" (excluding European countries) are Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and Kazakhstan, with exports of US $12.7 billion, up 11% year on year; It accounts for about 50% of the market along the "the Belt and Road", an increase of 3 percentage points over the same period last year.
With the accelerated elimination of traditional electric light source products, the demand for Chinese LED module products in overseas markets has soared, with an annual export volume of about 5.9 billion units, a year-on-year increase of about 488%. The export volume to countries or regions such as India, Egypt, and Vietnam accounts for about 61% of the total export volume of LED module products, an increase of 11 percentage points from 2023. These countries or regions are also potential competitors of China in overseas markets.Among them, the largest number of LED modules were exported to India, with approximately 1.3 billion units sold throughout the year, a year-on-year increase of 736%. The import volume growth rate of this product in some regions and other places has exceeded 1600%. The export value of LED modules in China is about 480 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 69%. The largest export value to the United States was about 70 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 84%. The rapid export growth of this product reflects the current situation of some links in China's lighting industry chain moving outward from one aspect.
(3)Lower. The average export price of products has further decreased, and the export of electric light source products continues to decline.
In 2024, about 83% of the lighting products with 59 tax codes experienced varying degrees of decline in export average prices, ranging from 1% to 93%. The export value of these products accounts for about 99% of the total export value of lighting products in China.Among them, the average export price of main lighting products such as fixed lamps and movable lamps has decreased by 5% -17%. The average export price of LED light sources (LED bulbs, LED tubes, LED modules) has decreased by 49%. Taking the light emitting diode (LED) bulb (85395210) as an example, the average export price of this product will decrease by 22% year-on-year in 2024, and the export unit price in major export markets such as Europe and America will decrease by 10% -30%.
Last year, the export volume of traditional electric light sources such as thermal radiation light sources and gas discharge light sources decreased by 16% year-on-year, accounting for about 10% of the total export volume of electric light sources for general lighting, a decrease of 9 percentage points compared to the same period last year. In terms of export value, the export value of electric light source products in China from January to December was about 6.3 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%, accounting for 11% of the total export value of China's lighting industry, a decrease of 1 percentage point from 2023.
